General Farm Hand

We are looking for a General Farm Hand, to live and work on farm on a 350 ha mixed farming operation with spray irrigation based in Dorie, Ashburton. Crops grown include: ryegrass, clover, barley and process peas and corn. Store lambs are an integral part of the operation along with winter grazing of dairy stock, and a small flock of breeding ewes.
This role has variety and is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to learn traditional farming practices in a progressive and supportive environment alongside dynamic owners.
During the year you will be included in all aspects of farming, from cultivation through to harvest and lambing through to store lambs. Hours typically average between 40 and 45 hours per week with flexibility required to cover seasonal peaks and troughs.
The ideal person will be drama free, intelligent, honest and reliable, they will also be calm under pressure and be able to show initiative. To be considered for this role your proven work skills should include:
- Operational knowledge & maintenance of farm machinery
- Excellent time management
- A calm and effective manner with stock
- Careful operation of farm machinery
- 2 – 3 years general farming experience
There is a local pre-school and school within a few minutes and for the right person there may be on farm accommodation available.
To be considered for this position you must have NZ Residency or a valid NZ Work Visa.
