Farm Hand
On behalf of a progressive and well-established 600ha mixed cropping and livestock operation near Charing Cross, we are seeking a capable Farm Hand to join their team.
- Do you take real pride in your work and the machinery you operate?
- Are you honest, accountable, and willing to own your mistakes?
- Do you bring a positive attitude and energy to the workplace?
If so, this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
This fully irrigated property operates pivot, lateral and turbo rain systems and runs a diverse and well-managed programme. Cropping includes cereals, rye and clover, vegetable seed crops, bunching onions and seed potatoes. Livestock numbers sit around 1,000 beef and dairy R2s and 4,000–5,000 store lambs. Shearing is one of the only tasks contracted out — the rest is completed in-house to a high standard.
The farm runs modern 300hp+ tractors, all under three years old. Spraying and baling are done in-house, as is all machinery maintenance. Mechanical ability is an advantage; however, a willingness to learn and take ownership of equipment is essential. You will be operating large machinery and entrusted with quality gear.
This role is varied and hands-on, including machinery operation, irrigation management, stock work, and assisting with machinery servicing and repairs. It will suit someone who enjoys responsibility and working across both cropping and livestock systems.
Ideally applicants will have 2–5 years’ experience in mixed farming, but my client is open to someone with less experience if they bring the right attitude, work ethic, and a genuine willingness to learn. Personality and integrity matter just as much as experience.
What’s on offer:
- Drive-in position
- On-site facilities include a smoko shed with kitchen, shower and toilet
- Meals supplied during harvest
- Modern, well-maintained machinery
- A positive, forward-thinking workplace open to new ideas
- A fun but safe and professional team environment
- Monthly pay cycle ( no overtime rates)
This is a tidy, organised operation where standards are high and effort is valued. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to grow their skills within a progressive farming business.
Applicants for this position MUST have a NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa as well as excellent spoken English. Ministry of Justice and ACC checks apply. Applicants must also be drug free and willing to undergo a pre-employment drug test.
