Driller’s Assistant
Are you looking for a role that keeps you moving, involves operating machinery, and puts you right in the thick of the action? We are looking for a reliable and switched-on Driller’s Assistant to join our team.
This isn’t just a “stand and watch” job, you’ll be the backbone of the drilling operation, ensuring everything runs like clockwork.
The Role Working alongside the Lead Driller, your day will revolve around precision, timing, and safety. You’ll be responsible for managing the equipment flow to keep the rig drilling.
Key responsibilities include:
- Truck Mounted Hydraulic Crane Operation: Operating the truck-mounted crane to lift casings, chain up rods, and swing them into a parallel position with the rig.
- Welding Prep: Helping with welding leads and gas supply on the rig. You’ll need to be one step ahead, pre-empting when the driller needs to weld casings together.
- Breakout & Tooling: Using heavy-duty equipment including table spanners and J-spanners to secure and manage rods during the drilling process.
- Rig Moves: Assisting with moving the setup (approx. 2 metres at a time).
About You
To hit the ground running, you’ll need to be physically fit, alert, and comfortable working around heavy machinery.
We are looking for:
- Mechanical Aptitude: You don’t need to be a mechanic, but you should be comfortable with heavy tools.
- Anticipation Skills: The best person for this role is someone who can look at what’s happening and know what tool or piece of equipment is needed next before being asked.
- Reliability: We work as a tight unit. We need someone who shows up and works hard.
